Instructor Information

Ken Lyon is the primary instructor and owner of Sierra South Horseshoeing School. Shoeing in Southern California since 1993, Ken is a well-known and respected farrier. Ken gained his experience and expertise in technical training during twenty years of military service, culminating in his position as training officer for the entire Pacific Fleet.

His varied areas of experience include shoeing fine show horses of many varied disciplines including Arabian, Quarter Horse, Friesian, and several Warmblood and Draft breeds.

Ken is an American Farriers Association Certified Journeyman Farrier and an approved AFA tester. He is also an active member of the San Diego County Farriers Association, and continues to participate in educational clinics, certifications, and national competitions. Ken maintains a shoeing practice in San Diego County primarily through the referrals of trainers and veterinarians.

With his ongoing desire to educate young farriers and the horse owning public along with a common sense approach, Ken is a superb choice for a farrier science instructor for those wanting to enter the world of equine hoof care.
